Simon Jordan Suggests Liverpool Might Sell Underperforming Star

Simon Jordan, the former chairman of Crystal Palace, suggests that it may be time for Liverpool to part ways with a long-serving player. As the season concludes and the transfer window approaches, discussions about Mo Salah’s future are expected to intensify. This follows Liverpool’s refusal of a £150m bid from Saudi club Al-Ittihad for the 31-year-old. After a disappointing Merseyside derby where Salah was notably ineffective, Jordan expressed on talkSPORT this morning that Liverpool should consider selling the iconic number 11, especially with his contract set to expire in just over a year.

Speculation on Mo Salah’s Future at Liverpool

Jordan expressed his opinion that Mo Salah’s time at Liverpool might be nearing its end, suggesting that the player has given his all but is showing signs of decline. He believes that the behind-the-scenes activity, including Salah’s potential move to Saudi Arabia, indicates a significant transition. Despite acknowledging Salah’s past contributions, Jordan remarked on a noticeable dip in Salah’s recent performances, attributing it partially to injuries but suspecting other factors might also be at play. He concluded that it might be time for Liverpool to move on and close this chapter.

Analyzing Mohamed Salah’s Recent Dip in Form

Despite the discomfort it brings to acknowledge, Mohamed Salah’s recent performance has been notably weak. Over the last seven games this month, Salah has managed only two goals, both of which were penalties, as per Transfermarkt data. Moreover, he has not scored from open play despite taking 21 shots, according to FBref statistics.

Even his last goal from open play, which occurred during a 2-1 victory over Brighton on Easter Sunday, came from just one successful attempt out of 12 shots, FBref reports.

These recent struggles underscore the arguments of those suggesting that Liverpool might consider selling Salah, who turns 32 in June and is the highest-paid player at the club with a weekly salary of £350,000, as reported by Capology.

Nonetheless, Salah’s exceptional seven-year tenure at Liverpool should not be overshadowed by a single poor month. It may simply be that Salah needs the upcoming summer break to fully rejuvenate.

While his time at Liverpool will eventually end, the Anfield management should not hasten his departure unless they receive an extraordinary offer. Any potential sale should ensure the incoming funds are immediately invested in a replacement capable of significantly impacting the game.
