Mohamed Salah’s Instagram post calling for Liverpool to return to a “heavy metal” attacking identity has drawn support from several current and former players. The message came after Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa and added more pressure around manager Arne Slot.
Salah called for Liverpool to recover their old style
After another painful defeat, Salah said Liverpool’s collapse was not what supporters deserved. He wrote that he wanted the team to become the feared, attacking side that won trophies in the past.
The Egyptian also said that this is the type of football he knows how to play and that Liverpool’s identity must be restored and protected. His comments quickly gained attention because they came amid growing criticism of Slot.
Current players reacted to the post
Several Liverpool players liked Salah’s message. The list included Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Hugo Ekitike, Andy Robertson and Jeremie Frimpong.
Ibrahima Konaté, Ryan Gravenberch, Giovanni Leoni, Calvin Ramsay and Wataru Endo also showed support. Ekitike added a handshake emoji, while Jones replied with applause.
The reaction suggests that Salah’s words found backing inside the squad, even though neither Liverpool nor Slot have publicly responded.
Former teammates also showed support
Former Liverpool players also liked the post, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid last summer. Luis Díaz, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Darwin Núñez and Jarell Quansah were also among those to react.
Salah is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years at the club. During that spell, he has scored 191 Premier League goals and won two league titles as well as the Champions League.
Liverpool’s final match of the campaign will be at Anfield against Brentford on May 24.
