Manchester United have officially appointed Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach after his successful spell in temporary charge.
The former midfielder signed a two year agreement after stepping into the role in January following Ruben Amorim’s departure.
Carrick helped revive United’s season, guiding the team to third place in the Premier League and securing Champions League qualification before the campaign ended.
Strong Results Under Carrick
United continued their positive form with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Since taking over, Carrick has managed 11 wins and three draws in 16 matches. Under his leadership, the club collected 36 points from a possible 48, the best record in the Premier League during that period.
Before Carrick’s arrival, Amorim had won only eight of his 20 matches in charge while also suffering five defeats.
Club director Jason Wilcox praised Carrick’s work and stated that his approach reflects Manchester United’s traditions, history and values.
Players Backed Carrick for the Job
Although there had been reports linking other coaches with the position, several United players publicly supported Carrick’s appointment.
Winger Amad Diallo recently said the squad were happy with him as manager, while Matheus Cunha and Casemiro also encouraged the club to keep him in charge permanently.
Carrick admitted he felt proud to return to Manchester United in a leading role and described the club as unique and special.
Return to Old Trafford Continues
The 44 year old previously worked as Middlesbrough manager before making his return to Old Trafford earlier this year.
Carrick originally joined Manchester United as a player two decades ago and remains one of the club’s most respected former midfielders.
In his statement after signing the contract, he said leading Manchester United carries huge responsibility and pride because of his long connection with the club.
