Manchester United have announced that Tyrell Malacia will leave the club when his contract expires this summer. His departure was confirmed after United’s 3-2 home win over Nottingham Forest, on a day when Casemiro also said goodbye to Old Trafford.
Malacia joins Casemiro on the exit list
Casemiro received a more visible farewell after his final home appearance for United. The Brazilian joined the club in 2022 for £70m and helped win both the FA Cup and League Cup during his spell in Manchester.
Malacia’s exit was confirmed more quietly by the club. United said the Dutch defender will depart at the end of the campaign, bringing his time at Old Trafford to a close.
The left-back arrived from Feyenoord in July 2022 and made 49 first-team appearances. He also spent part of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
Injuries limited Malacia’s role at United
Malacia was on the bench for the win over Nottingham Forest but did not play. This season, he has made only two appearances, both as a late substitute against Newcastle United.
The defender was also part of the matchday squad when United won the Carabao Cup in 2023 against Newcastle. However, injuries disrupted his progress and left him with limited opportunities.
Michael Carrick spoke about Malacia on the pitch after the match and asked supporters to show him backing, saying the player had been through a difficult period.
United plan midfield changes under Carrick
United are expected to be busy in the summer transfer market, especially in midfield. With Carrick close to becoming permanent manager, squad changes are already taking shape.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson has been linked with United after an impressive performance at Old Trafford. Carrick praised Anderson after the match, calling him an important part of Forest’s team.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has also previously spoken highly of Anderson, describing him as an elite player with the right attitude and plenty of talent.
