Newcastle and Everton to play pre-season match at Murrayfield

Newcastle United and Everton have confirmed plans to meet in a summer friendly at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh ahead of the new Premier League season.

The match will take place on 12 August at the famous Scottish venue, which holds around 67,000 spectators.

Premier League clubs continue preparations

Both teams will use the fixture as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.

Last season, Newcastle and Everton finished level on 49 points in the Premier League table, with Newcastle ending one position higher because of goal difference.

The new English top flight season is scheduled to begin on 22 August, just ten days after the Edinburgh clash.

Moyes highlights Everton’s Scottish connection

Everton manager David Moyes welcomed the opportunity to play in Scotland and believes the occasion will help the squad continue building fitness and rhythm before the new season starts.

The Scottish coach also pointed to Everton’s long standing relationship with Scottish football and expects strong support from travelling fans.

According to Moyes, supporters from Merseyside and other areas regularly follow the club across the country.

Howe expects strong atmosphere at Murrayfield

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe described the match as an important test against Premier League opposition.

He also praised Murrayfield as one of the most historic sporting venues in the United Kingdom and expects Newcastle supporters to create a lively atmosphere in Edinburgh.

Howe believes matches like this are valuable for helping players regain competitive sharpness before the league campaign begins.

Murrayfield adds football to summer schedule

Known primarily as the home of Scottish rugby, Murrayfield has increasingly hosted major football events and concerts in recent years.

The Newcastle versus Everton meeting is expected to attract a large crowd as both clubs continue preparations for another demanding Premier League season.
