Xavi Simons ruled out for season and World Cup after serious knee injury

Tottenham confirm ACL rupture

Tottenham have confirmed that Xavi Simons will miss the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The attacking midfielder was carried off on a stretcher during Spurs’ 1-0 win away to Wolves after a collision with Hugo Bueno.

The club said Simons will undergo surgery in the coming weeks before beginning his rehabilitation with the medical team. Injuries of this type usually require a long recovery period, often between six and nine months.

Simons admits he is heartbroken

The Netherlands international reacted emotionally to the news, saying his season had ended suddenly and that he was still trying to process what had happened. He also admitted that missing the World Cup made the injury even harder to accept.

Simons said he had wanted to keep fighting for Tottenham in their battle to stay in the Premier League, but that chance has now been taken away. He added that he will still try to support his teammates while working toward his return.

A major blow for Spurs in the relegation fight

The injury comes at a difficult time for Tottenham. Even after beating Wolves, Spurs remain in the relegation zone and sit two points from safety with four league matches left to play.

Simons had become one of the team’s most important attacking outlets. With him on the pitch, Tottenham looked more dangerous and more connected between midfield and attack. His absence leaves a clear creative gap at a crucial stage.

Spurs already dealing with a long injury list

Simons is not the only player missing. Tottenham are also without several key names, including Ben Davies, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert and Cristian Romero. Dominic Solanke also suffered an injury against Wolves.

The final fixtures will be demanding, with matches against Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton still to come. Without Simons, Spurs must find another way to create chances and collect the points needed to survive.

World Cup dream also put on hold

The injury also rules Simons out of this summer’s World Cup. The Netherlands begin their campaign against Japan on 14 June, but the midfielder will not be available for the tournament.

For Simons, the focus now shifts to surgery, recovery and a long road back. For Tottenham, the challenge is immediate: finding enough quality without him to stay in the Premier League.
