Arsenal start the new season with Community Shield triumph over Manchester City

Arsenal began the 2026/27 campaign by adding another trophy to the collection, defeating Manchester City in the Community Shield at Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

The Gunners made an immediate impact and opened the scoring inside the first minute. Myles Lewis Skelly played Riccardo Calafiori through on goal, and the Italian kept his composure to finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Havertz doubles Arsenal’s advantage before the break

Arsenal continued to create problems for Manchester City as the first half developed. Their pressure produced a second goal before the half hour mark when Kai Havertz climbed highest and headed home to put his side 2:0 ahead.

That advantage reflected Arsenal’s control of the opening 45 minutes, with the team taking a comfortable two goal lead into the interval.

Odegaard completes an emphatic victory in Cardiff

Arsenal again struck early after the restart. Martin Odegaard produced a clever finish that sent the Manchester City goalkeeper the wrong way before calmly rolling the ball into the vacant net.

The third goal effectively settled the contest and completed a commanding performance from Arsenal. The victory in the Welsh capital secured the Community Shield and gave the club a successful start to the 2026/27 season.
