Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he is being treated for a neurological condition after collapsing during a preseason match against Heidenheim, only three days after a similar episode against Leipzig.
The 23 year old entered Tuesday’s friendly as a substitute during the second half but went down on the pitch shortly afterwards. Players from Bayern and Heidenheim gathered around him while medical staff provided treatment.
Musiala was eventually helped back to his feet and was able to walk away from the field with assistance.
The incident followed another worrying moment on Saturday, when Musiala collapsed during Bayern’s friendly against Leipzig. German news agency DPA reported that he managed to leave the pitch without assistance on that occasion, although he appeared disoriented afterwards.
Musiala explains his neurological diagnosis
Following the Heidenheim match, Musiala addressed his condition publicly in a message shared on Instagram.
The Bayern midfielder said doctors had diagnosed him with temporary absence seizures related to a neurological problem. He described the condition as manageable and explained that it could account for both recent incidents.
According to Musiala, these episodes can cause the type of moments seen during the matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim.
Bayern’s own match report offered limited information about what happened. The club stated only that Musiala had suffered a setback after being forced off shortly after entering the game because of a knock.
Musiala provided more detail himself and stressed that he remains positive about his recovery. He said he is receiving high level medical care and has been reassured that the condition does not present an additional health danger.
The Germany international added that he is staying in close contact with neurological specialists and continues to follow their recommendations.
Midfielder hopes to maintain his normal routine
Musiala said it was his personal wish to deal with the condition while continuing as much of his normal daily routine as possible.
With the approval of the specialists treating him, the midfielder wants to focus on the activities that support his recovery, including remaining involved with football.
He explained that continuing to live normally and staying connected with the sport he loves is an important part of how he intends to manage the situation.
His comments suggest that there is currently no intention to step away from football permanently, although his condition will continue to be monitored by medical professionals.
Musiala’s second collapse within several days has naturally placed additional attention on his health, particularly with Bayern preparing for the start of competitive action.
Bayern prepare for German Supercup clash
The Bundesliga champions are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund on Saturday in the German Supercup, the traditional opening fixture of the German season.
Musiala’s availability for that match remains uncertain following the latest incident. Bayern have not provided detailed information about when the midfielder could return to action.
For now, Musiala’s focus remains on his recovery and continued medical supervision. The player has expressed confidence in the treatment he is receiving and says he is optimistic about dealing with the neurological condition.
