John Stones to Captain England as Kane Starts on the Bench

John Stones will captain England in their Nations League match against Greece at Wembley, with interim manager Lee Carsley confirming that regular captain Harry Kane will begin on the bench due to a minor injury. Kane, who sustained a “small knock” during Bayern Munich’s last fixture before the international break, has been training separately from the main squad.

Stones’ First Time Leading England

This will be the first time Stones captains the England team from the start of a match. Speaking about the honor, Stones shared his excitement: “It’s everything I could have dreamed of as a kid. To be walking out with the armband is an absolute honor and a moment I’ll cherish forever.”

Kane and Grealish Fitness Concerns

Despite starting on the bench, Kane could still make an appearance during the match and is expected to be fit for England’s next Nations League game against Finland. Jack Grealish is another concern, as he missed Wednesday’s training session with a slight knock. Carsley emphasized that the team would not take any risks with player fitness.

Rising Stars and Team Dynamics

As England prepares to face Greece, there is significant interest in Cole Palmer, who has been in excellent form for Chelsea. Carsley hinted at the possibility of Palmer linking up with club teammate Noni Madueke during the game, praising Palmer as “an exciting player” and a key part of England’s attacking options.
