Barcelona Weigh Up Their Next Move
Manchester United are reportedly still in talks over Marcus Rashford’s future, with Barcelona yet to decide on a permanent deal.
Rashford has spent the season on loan at the Catalan club after losing his place at Old Trafford under former manager Ruben Amorim. The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals in 45 matches for Barcelona.
The Spanish side have a £26m option to buy him permanently. However, reports suggest they have not yet committed to activating that clause.
United are said to be unhappy with Barcelona’s approach in negotiations. Club sources reportedly feel the offer being discussed is below Rashford’s value.
Rashford No Longer Central to United Plans
Rashford still has two years left on his Manchester United contract, but he is expected to be allowed to leave this summer.
A second loan spell at Camp Nou could become possible if Barcelona refuse to meet United’s asking price. The England forward is not viewed as part of the club’s plans for the 2026/27 season.
United’s attacking record has remained a concern. Benjamin Sesko leads the team with 11 goals in all competitions this season, meaning the club could go a third straight campaign without a 20-goal player.
Rashford was the last United player to reach that mark, scoring 30 times in the 2022/23 season.
Old Trafford Faces Major Summer Decisions
Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to reshape the squad before a likely Champions League return.
The club spent around £200m last summer on Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Their first season has offered some positive signs, but none have delivered a major scoring return.
There is also uncertainty around interim head coach Michael Carrick. He is officially in charge only until the end of the campaign.
Carrick has won nine of his 13 matches since replacing Amorim in January. United’s 2-1 win over Brentford left them third in the Premier League and close to securing Champions League football.
