Diomande wants future settled before World Cup
Liverpool could complete a deal for Yan Diomande as early as next week, with the RB Leipzig winger keen to resolve his future before the World Cup, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds are preparing for a new chapter after a difficult season under Arne Slot. Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League, and Slot was dismissed after the campaign failed to meet expectations.
Reports from David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and other journalists have said that Andoni Iraola is expected to become Liverpool’s new head coach. The club are now looking to strengthen the squad, with at least one new winger high on the summer transfer list.
Diomande has emerged as a serious option and could become Iraola’s first signing at Anfield if Liverpool can reach an agreement with RB Leipzig.
Liverpool and PSG both pushing for Diomande
French journalist Santi Aouna reported on Tuesday that Diomande has approved a possible move to both Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain this summer.
Aouna wrote on X that the winger had given the green light to join either PSG or Liverpool. He also claimed that several meetings have already taken place involving PSG, Leipzig and the player’s representatives.
Former CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs also said over the weekend that Liverpool and PSG are currently leading the race for Diomande. Bayern Munich are also worth watching, but Liverpool and PSG appear to offer the role the player prefers.
Jacobs explained on the Born N’ Red podcast that Diomande is tempted by both Liverpool and PSG. Bayern are still looking for a new wide player after Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona, but their idea would be to use Diomande on the left side.
According to Jacobs, that could make a difference. At this stage of his career, Diomande strongly prefers to play on the right. Liverpool and PSG both see him mainly in that role, which could help them in talks.
Romano says next week could be important
Romano has now said that Liverpool are actively speaking with Diomande’s camp, while PSG are also working on the deal.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that many Liverpool supporters had asked about the winger and whether a move to Anfield was possible. He confirmed that Liverpool are in negotiations with the player’s representatives and are seriously involved.
Romano added that PSG have genuine interest and are also in contact with Diomande’s camp. He described the situation as a real battle, with both clubs placing the winger high on their lists.
The player’s side would prefer to finalise the transfer before the start of the World Cup on June 11. Diomande wants to go into the tournament with his club future already decided.
Romano warned that the deal will still depend on Leipzig, who are not usually easy to negotiate with. Even so, Liverpool and PSG are both trying to accelerate the process, meaning next week could be decisive for Iraola’s first potential signing.
