Kamada inspires Crystal Palace win over Shakhtar Donetsk

Kamada scores and assists in key semi-final win

Daichi Kamada played a decisive role as Crystal Palace beat Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their European semi-final.

After Shakhtar pulled level early in the second half, Kamada restored Palace’s advantage with a clean half-volley. He later assisted Jørgen Strand Larsen for the third goal, giving the Eagles a stronger position in the tie.

It was Kamada’s first goal for Palace since 30 October 2024, when he scored against Aston Villa in the League Cup.

Midfielder jokes about his left foot

Speaking after the match, Kamada reacted modestly to his goal. The Japan international smiled and said his left foot sometimes works well.

He admitted that chances do not come often when he plays as a No. 6 in Palace’s system. This time, he found space, took the opportunity and helped his team win an important match.

Kamada called the result massive for Palace and said scoring and assisting made the night even better for him.

Shakhtar still warned Palace with possession and chances

Kamada also praised Shakhtar’s performance. The Ukrainian side had more possession, more set-pieces and enough attacking threat to keep the tie open before the second leg.

He compared the match to Palace’s FA Cup semi-final win over Aston Villa last season. According to Kamada, Palace knew their tactics could work against this type of opponent.

Palace now turn attention to Bournemouth in the Premier League before the second leg at Selhurst Park, where the atmosphere is expected to be intense.
