Silva emerges as one of the names under review
Chelsea have begun work on finding their next permanent head coach, with Marco Silva among the candidates being considered. The club are expected to check his availability by contacting his representatives as part of the early stage of the process.
Silva has spent five years at Fulham and remains highly regarded, though there is some uncertainty over whether he will extend his stay there. Fulham are currently level on points with Chelsea in the Premier League table, which adds extra interest to the situation.
Iraola and Alonso also feature on the shortlist
Andoni Iraola is also understood to be high on Chelsea’s list of early options. The Bournemouth manager is set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Marco Rose already lined up as his replacement.
Xabi Alonso is another name Chelsea plan to assess. He has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in January and could become part of the wider conversation as the club studies several possible routes.
Chelsea do not want to rush the appointment
The search follows Liam Rosenior’s dismissal after only three months in charge. Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have started compiling a list of contenders for the long-term role.
No formal offer has been made yet, and the club are still in the early phase of the process. Chelsea intend to speak with representatives, measure interest and run a detailed recruitment process before making a final decision.
McFarlane remains in charge until summer
Calum McFarlane will continue as interim head coach until the end of the season. His spell began positively, with Chelsea beating Leeds 1-0 to reach the FA Cup final.
The permanent appointment is expected in the summer, giving Chelsea time to assess their leading candidates and decide who is best suited to guide the next stage of the project.
