Emma Raducanu ruled out of Wimbledon after injury setback

Stress fracture ends hopes of home Grand Slam appearance

Emma Raducanu will not compete at this year’s Wimbledon after being forced to withdraw because of injury.

The British number one had been dealing with pain in her lower leg in recent weeks and made every effort to be fit for the Championships. However, medical advice confirmed that the issue had progressed into a stress fracture, leaving her unable to continue playing.

Raducanu admitted the decision was especially hard to accept because Wimbledon is the tournament she values most, with the chance to compete in front of home supporters.

Strong recent form makes withdrawal even more disappointing

The timing of the setback is particularly frustrating for Raducanu after an encouraging run of results. Earlier this month she reached the final at Queen’s Club, showing promising form ahead of the grass court major.

Seeded 30th for the tournament, the Briton had been due to begin her Wimbledon campaign on Day 1 with a first round match against Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic on No.1 Court.
