Emma Raducanu Knocked Out of Miami Open in Quarter-Finals by Jessica Pegula

Emma Raducanu’s impressive run at the 2024 Miami Open came to an end after a tough battle in the quarter-finals against USA’s Jessica Pegula. The American top seed won the match 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, securing a place in the semi-finals.

Raducanu, who had shown flashes of brilliance throughout the tournament, found herself unable to capitalize on key moments during the match. Despite her efforts, she converted just one of six break points on Pegula’s powerful serve, which ultimately cost her the match. In the second set, Raducanu mounted a strong comeback to force a decider, but Pegula proved too strong in the final set.

Raducanu’s Miami Run Ends, but Offers Hope for Future

While the defeat was disappointing, Raducanu’s run to the quarter-finals was a significant achievement, marking her best performance since her breakthrough 2021 US Open victory. The British No. 2 showed glimpses of her potential, particularly when she rallied in the second set and even fought through physical discomfort caused by the intense Miami humidity.

Raducanu appeared to struggle physically during the match, grimacing and showing signs of overheating as the match wore on. Despite posting five set points on Pegula’s serve in the second set, Raducanu couldn’t convert and eventually lost the match in the third set.

While she fell short in this quarter-final clash, Raducanu’s performance in Miami is a positive sign for her ongoing recovery and future prospects on the WTA Tour.
