The strongest drivers often show their quality when conditions become difficult, and Lando Norris did exactly that during an unpredictable Dutch Grand Prix. The reigning World Champion delivered a composed performance at Zandvoort and underlined his status at a weekend where managing tyres and adapting quickly proved crucial.
Sprint struggles left Norris with doubts
Norris himself had not been convinced such a result was possible after the Sprint one day earlier. Around 10 laps into the 100km race, his pace began to drop after he pushed the medium tyres too hard while trying to make up for McLaren’s weakness through the slower corners.
Despite those problems, his outright speed over a single lap remained strong. Norris responded later on Saturday by improving his performance and securing pole position, although doubts about his race prospects remained.
Antonelli initially looked ready to take advantage
Those concerns appeared justified when championship leader Kimi Antonelli moved into first place following the second standing start. With the Italian ahead and seemingly comfortable, he looked well positioned to fight for victory.
Norris, however, handled the challenging circumstances far better than his Sprint performance had suggested. In a race shaped by changing conditions and uncertainty, the McLaren driver found the consistency he had lacked the previous day and produced a display worthy of the reigning champion.
