Raducanu Reaches Third Round in Montreal

Emma Raducanu Builds Momentum Ahead of US Open

Emma Raducanu continued her impressive form at the Canadian Open, advancing to the third round with a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set victory over American Peyton Stearns. The British number one is looking to build momentum ahead of next month’s US Open.

Raducanu, who made a stunning run to win the US Open in 2021, has won five of her six matches during the North American hard-court season, including a semi-final appearance at the Washington Open last week.

Next Opponent: Amanda Anisimova

Raducanu will next face Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova, who defeated New Zealand’s Lulu Sun 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to progress. Raducanu’s victory over Stearns marks her third straight win against the American, with the 22-year-old demonstrating her strength and composure on the court.

Impressive Performance Against Stearns

Raducanu’s victory was characterized by an early break in the first set, followed by a clinical finish where she secured the sixth set point on Stearns’ serve. Although Raducanu faced a brief setback, falling behind 4-2 in the second set, she responded by winning four consecutive games to seal the match.

“I’m really happy with how I came through in that match,” Raducanu said after the win. “I kind of lost my focus at some moments in the second set and she took advantage, but very happy that I came through against a top opponent.”

Personal Significance in Montreal

Raducanu, who was born in Canada, shared her gratitude for the support from her fans, saying, “I just want to say thank you [to supporters], I saw the Union Jack in clutch moments, and I was actually born in Canada, so to me it means so much to do well here.”

Looking Ahead to the US Open

Raducanu’s performances in Montreal come on the heels of an encouraging run at Wimbledon, where she defeated former champion Marketa Vondrousova and gave world number one Aryna Sabalenka a tough fight in their third-round match. As Raducanu progresses in Montreal, she continues to build confidence for the upcoming challenges at the US Open.

Cameron Norrie Exits Men’s Draw
