US Open: Carlos Alcaraz admits he was ‘brilliant’ in final victory over Jannik Sinner

Alcaraz reclaims US Open crown

Carlos Alcaraz produced a masterclass to beat Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the US Open final, securing his second title in New York and sixth Grand Slam overall. The 22-year-old also regained the world No. 1 ranking, becoming the youngest man since Bjorn Borg to reach six major titles.

“Best level ever” from the Spaniard

Speaking on court, Alcaraz said he felt this was the highest level of his career:

“Since the first match until the final, I think I’ve been playing great tennis. The focus was really high. I didn’t lose it in any match. With the serve, I was very consistent — I got broken only three times across the whole tournament.”

Beating Sinner demanded perfection

Asked about what stood out tactically, Alcaraz explained:

“Matches against Jannik are about being good tactically and physically. I think today I just was brilliant. In the second set, a few mistakes, but in general I was brilliant. If I want to beat Jannik on the biggest stage, I have to be perfect.”

Coach Ferrero: “Perfect performance”

Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero described the display as “perfect,” with his player agreeing:

“He’s right. If I want to win the US Open, I have to play perfect. This was the best tournament I’ve ever played — from the first round to the final, my consistency was really, really high.”

Alcaraz’s Grand Slam record

  • US Open titles: 2 (2022, 2025)
  • French Open titles: 2
  • Wimbledon titles: 2
  • Total majors: 6, youngest man since Bjorn Borg to reach this milestone

With this win, Alcaraz confirmed himself as the dominant force of the new tennis era, overcoming Sinner on the biggest stage once again.
