Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has officially begun his journey with Ferrari, marking what he calls “a new era in the history of this iconic team.”
The 40-year-old Briton started his preparations at Ferrari’s Maranello factory, where he will integrate with the team and gear up for his debut season in red. “Racing for Ferrari has always been a dream,” Hamilton shared on Instagram. “Today, I couldn’t be happier to see that dream come true.”
First Steps at Maranello
Hamilton’s inaugural day at Ferrari included meeting key team members and familiarizing himself with the factory. He is expected to test Ferrari’s 2025 car in the simulator and will soon take to the Fiorano test track with the 2023 car due to F1’s testing regulations.
Key Upcoming Events:
- Fiorano Test Track: Hamilton will test the 2023 Ferrari later this week.
- Barcelona Testing: Additional sessions with the 2023 car.
- Official Ferrari Car Launch: Scheduled for 19 February 2025.
Challenges Ahead for Hamilton
This season presents unique challenges for Hamilton, who will drive a non-Mercedes-powered car for the first time in his 18-year F1 career. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur acknowledged the transition:
“It’s not easy, but Hamilton brings immense experience. He’s not a rookie; I have no doubts about his ability to adapt.”
Hamilton will share pre-season testing duties equally with teammate Charles Leclerc in Bahrain from 26-28 February.
Living in Italy: A New Chapter
To immerse himself fully in Ferrari’s culture, Hamilton will live in Italy, further embracing the spirit of what is regarded as the national F1 team. The Briton will also join Ferrari at the official F1 launch in London on 18 February before the new car unveiling the following day.
A New Era in Formula 1
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has electrified the motorsport world. Fans and experts alike eagerly await the legendary driver’s impact on Ferrari’s legacy. As Hamilton himself said, “I can’t wait to see what story we will write together.”
The journey begins now, with the 2025 season opener in Australia from 14-16 March.
