John Higgins Clinches 33rd Ranking Title in Emotional Tour Championship Win

John Higgins has been crowned the winner of the 2025 Tour Championship, taking his 33rd career ranking title after a gripping 10-8 win over Mark Selby. The Scottish snooker star’s victory came after a thrilling comeback, making it one of the most emotional moments of his career.

A Remarkable Recovery Against a Tough Opponent

Higgins had established a strong 5-1 lead early in the match but found himself on the back foot after losing the next seven frames to Selby. With the scoreline at 8-5 in Selby’s favor, many believed the match was slipping away from Higgins. However, the four-time world champion dug deep and won the last five frames to take the title.

“My Best Ever Win,” Says Higgins

Following the match, Higgins, holding back tears, admitted that the win was the most emotional of his career. “To come back from 8-5 down against a player like Mark, it’s incredible. Normally, you don’t come back against Selby, but I managed to do it,” he said. Higgins credited his victory to his resilience and belief, especially considering the immense pressure of facing such a skilled opponent.

Selby Full of Praise for Higgins

Despite his defeat, Mark Selby also recognized the exceptional quality of Higgins’ performance. “John was incredible from 8-5,” said Selby. “Every mistake I made, he punished me.” Selby acknowledged Higgins as a true warrior of the sport.

Additional Honors and Prize Money

In addition to the title, Higgins also earned £10,000 for achieving the highest break of the tournament. His 144 against Barry Hawkins in the semi-finals was the highest break at Manchester Central, further solidifying his dominance.

This victory is just over a month after Higgins claimed his previous ranking title at the World Open in China, showing his consistency and form in the world of snooker.
