Swayman Could Start for Bruins in Season Opener

Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman could potentially start in goal for the team’s season opener against the Florida Panthers, despite missing all of training camp. After signing an eight-year, $66 million contract as a restricted free agent, Swayman returned to practice on Monday, just one day before the opener.

Swayman’s Return to Practice

Swayman hadn’t practiced with the Bruins during training camp but kept himself in shape by training at Boston University. Upon his return, he expressed confidence in his readiness to play. “I feel ready to play,” Swayman said. “I’ve put myself in a really good position to perform.”

Boston coach Jim Montgomery hinted that the decision on whether Swayman will start remains undecided but left open the possibility.

Key Role for Swayman This Season

Whether or not he starts in the opener, Swayman is expected to be the Bruins’ clear No. 1 goaltender after Linus Ullmark was traded in June. Swayman, who posted impressive stats last season, including a .916 save percentage, will have the chance to prove his reliability as the team’s primary goalie.
