The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has issued a five-game suspension to London Knights’ alternate captain, Landon Sim, marking his second suspension for conduct violations in 2024. The disciplinary action came after an incident during the November 6 game between the Knights and the Soo Greyhounds.
Incident Details and Investigation
During the game, Sim received a game misconduct following a comment aimed at provoking an opposing player. The OHL quickly responded by suspending Sim indefinitely pending an investigation. Upon reviewing the incident, the league concluded that Sim’s remark violated the OHL’s code of conduct due to its marginalizing nature, touching on both religious and cultural sensitivities.
Minimum Suspension Penalty Enforced
According to the OHL’s guidelines, the five-game suspension is the minimum penalty for such conduct. Sim has already served two of these games, making him eligible to return on November 22.
OHL’s Commitment to a Respectful Environment
In its announcement, the OHL reinforced its commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all players. “All players have the right to participate in a safe and healthy environment,” the league stated, underscoring that discriminatory comments based on race, age, religion, gender, or other factors are unacceptable and will be met with strict disciplinary action.
