Bissouma stretchered off seconds after comeback

Fresh setback on international duty

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma left the field on a stretcher for Mali after going down within thirty seconds of coming on against Madagascar. The substitute appearance was his first outing of the season and it ended almost immediately. The severity of the problem is not yet known. Mali have completed their schedule for the break so Bissouma will return to north London for assessment.

Season context at Spurs

The twenty nine year old has not played a competitive minute for Spurs under Thomas Frank. He sustained a knee issue in training before the Premier League opener with Burnley. He worked back to fitness and rejoined full training before the international window, which led to his call up.

Contract and transfer picture

Bissouma is out of contract at the end of the season. Spurs were open to a move in the summer and held talks with Galatasaray over a loan with an obligation to buy. Discussions stalled near the end of the window and the injury situation reduced the chances of an agreement.

What comes next

Club staff will check the midfielder on his return and decide the next steps. The Spurs manager has said the situation around the player was resolved and that he had plans for him. Any layoff would complicate those plans and could influence the medium term future of the player.
