Yoane Wissa ruled out of Newcastle debut due to injury

Howe confirms setback for £55m striker

Eddie Howe revealed that Yoane Wissa, Newcastle United’s £55m summer signing from Brentford, will not feature against Wolves this weekend. The Congolese forward picked up a knee problem on international duty with DR Congo and is still struggling. Howe said Wissa “felt the effects” of the knock and must be monitored before a potential return in upcoming fixtures.

Ramsey also out until next break

Another fresh signing, midfielder Jacob Ramsey, will also miss out after sustaining an ankle injury in the draw against Leeds. The £40m arrival from Aston Villa is expected to be sidelined until after the next international break. Howe admitted Ramsey’s absence is a “big blow” after he had just broken into the team.

Champions League and big matches at risk

If Wissa’s injury persists, he could miss crucial games, including Newcastle’s Champions League opener against Barcelona, followed by Premier League ties with Bournemouth and Arsenal, plus a League Cup clash with Bradford. His absence delays the anticipated debut in front of the St James’ Park crowd.

Positive news on Woltemade

Howe confirmed that Nick Woltemade, the £69m signing from Stuttgart, is fit and ready for Wolves. The German striker has impressed in training, with Howe praising his calmness, character and quick adaptation to Newcastle’s style.

Newcastle now face Wolves at home with both excitement and frustration — buoyed by Woltemade’s availability but hindered by injuries to Wissa and Ramsey.
