Uefa Super Cup 2025: Date, Venue, and Prize Money

When and where is the Uefa Super Cup?

The Uefa Super Cup will take place in Udine, Italy, on Wednesday, 13 August at 20:00 BST when Paris St-Germain face Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25,000-seater Stadio Friuli, home to Serie A club Udinese, will become the 13th venue to host the fixture since it switched away from Monaco in 2012.

What is the Uefa Super Cup?

The trophy was devised by Dutch reporter Anton Witkamp to decide who was the top club side in Europe. Ajax beat Rangers over two legs in the inaugural competition in 1972, but the concept wasn’t officially recognised by Uefa until a year later.

The Super Cup was first played between the winners of the then European Cup and the winners of the Cup Winners’ Cup. After the latter was discontinued by Uefa in 1999, the fixture became an annual clash between the Champions League winners and the now Europa League victors.

Despite the addition of the Conference League in 2021, the winners of that competition do not compete for the Super Cup.

Real Madrid have lifted the trophy six times and are the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

How does Uefa choose a stadium for the Super Cup?

The Uefa Super Cup was hosted by Monaco from 1998 until 2012 but has been played in 13 different locations since. The venue is now decided by individual football associations bidding to host major Uefa matches, before the executive committee makes the final selection.

What is the Uefa Super Cup prize money?

Winners of the trophy will receive five million euros (£4.3m) in prize money, while the runners-up get four million euros (£3.4m).
