Fabio Paratici returns to Tottenham as joint sporting director with Johan Lange

Role and structure at Spurs

Fabio Paratici has rejoined Tottenham as joint sporting director alongside Johan Lange. Lange moves up from technical director. The pair will lead the men’s football strategy and a new director of football operations will be hired to support the structure.

Background to the suspension and return

Paratici was banned in Italy after a case that involved inflated transfer fees during his Juventus tenure and FIFA extended that suspension worldwide in March 2023. He stepped back and then resigned from his Spurs role in April 2023 after his appeal was rejected. The sanction was later reduced to allow limited work and fully expired in the summer of 2025. During the ban he advised Tottenham on a consultancy basis.

Executive comments and vision

Spurs stated that the combined expertise of Johan and Fabio will guide player pathways and performance inside a collaborative framework. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham called the set up an evolution that matches the size of a modern remit. He said uniting two experienced leaders lays foundations for sustained success and a connected football ecosystem.

Paratici on modern sporting direction

Paratici said the job has changed a lot in the past decade. He highlighted the need for specialists across departments, from recruitment to squad management. He added that he and Lange know each other well and that their skills are complementary.

A year of major change at Tottenham

Venkatesham arrived from Arsenal and began his Spurs role in the summer. Ange Postecoglou departed in June after a seventeenth place league finish despite a Europa League title in May, the first trophy for the club in seventeen years. Thomas Frank took over after seven seasons with Brentford. Donna Maria Cullen stepped down from the board. In September Daniel Levy was removed as chairman and Peter Charrington became non executive chairman.

Paratici’s earlier Spurs and Juventus record

Paratici first joined Spurs in June 2021 as managing director of football and the club placed fourth in the Premier League in his first season with Antonio Conte. Before that he spent eleven years as sporting director at Juventus and helped oversee one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
