Frank Relieved After Convincing Victory
Tottenham Hotspur delivered one of their best performances of the season with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund that eased mounting pressure on head coach Thomas Frank. With only 11 outfield players available and questions over his future after a toxic atmosphere following the West Ham defeat Frank joked he would celebrate with two large glasses of red wine.
The team showed full commitment which Frank called an excellent sign for the coach. The connection with fans created magical energy throughout the match. This result against strong European opposition positions Spurs well for a top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase.
Dominant First Half Sets Tone
Djed Spence shone as makeshift left winger winning the corner that led to Cristian Romero’s opener after 14 minutes. Wilson Odobert recycled the ball and Romero finished clinically. Spurs dominated physically cutting through Dortmund repeatedly but needed a second goal.
Daniel Svensson was sent off for a high challenge on Odobert after VAR review. Eleven minutes later Odobert crossed and Dominic Solanke bundled home on his Champions League debut despite a deflection off his own calf. Spurs reached half-time without conceding a shot.
Dortmund improved slightly after the break but Julian Ryerson’s free-kick was their best chance. Lucas Bergvall’s injury brought on 17-year-old Jun’Ai Byfield who became Spurs’ youngest-ever Champions League player and settled well at right-back.
Looking Ahead After Positive Night
Frank stressed building on this with a win against Burnley in the Premier League. He noted consistent good performances recently but poor margins until this match where the red card and Solanke’s goal turned things in their favour. The focus remains on hard work belief and continuing the momentum.
Dominic Solanke hoped this could be a turning point highlighting strong European form as a confidence booster. The team aims to improve domestically while pushing forward in Europe united with staff and fans.
