Erik ten Hag Frustrated by Manchester United's Prolonged Season Review

Erik ten Hag is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the prolonged season review at Manchester United. The Dutch manager believes that the ongoing uncertainty regarding his future is impacting the club’s summer transfer plans.

United’s owners, including INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co-chairman Joel Glazer, are conducting a comprehensive review of the club’s performance. This includes deliberations on whether Ten Hag will continue as manager despite an underwhelming second season at Old Trafford.

While Ten Hag led United to FA Cup victory, following his Carabao Cup triumph the previous year, the team struggled for large parts of the season, finishing eighth in the Premier League and securing only a Europa League spot through their domestic cup success.

Seventeen days have passed since United’s FA Cup win, and Ten Hag is reportedly still in the dark about his future. According to the Telegraph, the 54-year-old is ‘increasingly frustrated’ with the delay in the decision regarding his role for the next season.

Ten Hag’s Concerns Over United’s Summer Plans

Ten Hag believes the current impasse could disrupt Manchester United’s summer plans. Reports suggest INEOS planned a significant squad overhaul, but uncertainty over the managerial position may delay these moves.

Ten Hag has previously expressed frustration with United’s slow transfer negotiations. This sluggishness contributed to the club’s £86 million purchase of Antony, a player Ten Hag advocated for but who has yet to make an impact.

Meanwhile, INEOS has reportedly spoken to potential candidates to replace Ten Hag. Notably, Ratcliffe has held talks with Thomas Tuchel in Monaco, anticipating Ten Hag’s possible departure. However, Tuchel, after leaving Bayern Munich, has opted to take a break from football and will consider his options later.

Potential Replacements for Ten Hag at United

United considered Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, a former assistant to Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Ralf Rangnick, as a potential replacement for Ten Hag. However, McKenna has signed a new contract with Ipswich.

Talks have also been reported with Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi. There has been no official contact with Brentford regarding Frank, while De Zerbi left Brighton at the end of the Premier League season to explore other opportunities.

Ten Hag, after United’s FA Cup win over Manchester City, went on holiday but now awaits a decision about his future.
