A narrow Spurs win eases pressure as Archie Gray grabs a first senior goal

Tottenham’s league position and the call for patience

Former Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker said he does not fully understand why Tottenham fans are so unhappy right now. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, he pointed to Spurs’ slim win at Crystal Palace on Sunday as a reminder that they are still in a decent spot, only five points behind fifth placed Chelsea in a crowded top half of the table.

Reo-Coker believes there is plenty of time left in the season and said Thomas Fran should be given space to shape the side into a stronger force. He also suggested that some Spurs players are not yet performing to the level they believe they are at, and that progress will take time.

Gray’s breakthrough and the headlines it created

Reo-Coker reserved special praise for teenage midfielder Archie Gray, whose first senior goal secured the win at Selhurst Park and helped Tottenham respond after back to back Premier League defeats. He described Gray as a player he rates highly, calling him versatile and still settling into life at Spurs.

He added that Gray’s recent run of matches has earned him the right to keep his place, and said scoring his first goal for the club is likely to be a moment the 19 year old remembers for years.

Gray’s winner also featured on Monday’s back pages, with newspapers highlighting how valuable the goal could be for the manager at a time when pressure has been building.
