Mount’s Long-Awaited Comeback
Mason Mount has rejoined first-team training at Manchester United ahead of the Europa League Round of 16 second-leg clash against Real Sociedad. The midfielder has been sidelined since December, missing 19 matches due to injury.
Since his £60 million transfer from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, Mount has struggled with injuries, preventing him from making a significant impact at United. However, his return could provide a much-needed boost as the team aims for European success.
Manchester United’s Ongoing Injury Concerns
Despite Mount’s return, Ruben Amorim’s squad still faces a number of injury issues. Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martínez are out for the season, while Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Altay Bayindir, and Jonny Evans have all been dealing with injuries.
Before last weekend’s match against Arsenal, Amorim hinted at possible comebacks, mentioning that Mainoo and Maguire were close to returning, while Mount and Shaw were also expected to rejoin the squad soon.
United’s Hopes in the Europa League
The first leg against Real Sociedad ended in a 1-1 draw, making the second leg at Old Trafford crucial for United’s European campaign. Mount’s return could give the team an extra push as they look to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
For Ruben Amorim, the Europa League represents his last chance to win silverware this season, and he will be determined to lead his team to victory.
