Omar Marmoush injury update: Man City forward faces scan on knee ahead of Manchester derby

Injury scare on international duty

Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is a doubt for Sunday’s derby against Manchester United after suffering a knee ligament bruise during Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso. The 26-year-old lasted only nine minutes before being forced off.

Medical assessment and timeline

The Egyptian FA confirmed that Marmoush will undergo scans in Cairo before being evaluated by City’s medical team upon his return to Manchester. His availability for the derby and City’s upcoming fixtures against Napoli and Arsenal remains uncertain.

Impact on Pep Guardiola’s squad

Marmoush, signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m in January, has scored eight goals in 28 appearances. He recently started against Tottenham and Brighton on the left wing, replacing Jeremy Doku.

City are already facing fitness concerns:

  • Abdukodir Khusanov (calf, out two weeks)
  • John Stones (muscle issue, withdrew from England duty)
  • Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly (England U21 withdrawals)
  • Rayan Ait-Nouri (missed Algeria duty)

Pep Guardiola is expected to give a full injury update at Friday’s press conference ahead of the derby.
