Man Utd Could Drop One Star with New Look Back Five Against Nottingham Forest

Manchester United are finally back in action after a 16-day break, facing Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this evening. There are some key aspects to consider after the team’s final training session ahead of the game.

The Red Devils could have been back on the pitch earlier if Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee had converted their penalties during the FA Cup shootout against Fulham. As it stands, their April and May fixtures will be limited to Premier League and Europa League matches.

This match marks United’s return to the City Ground for the first time in 13 months, with the team having played there four times since Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League in 2022. Forest have been performing impressively, currently sitting third in the league and progressing to the FA Cup semi-finals.

As United continues to manage their defensive injury challenges, they now have the opportunity to field their strongest trident and wingers, with Lisandro Martinez still in recovery. According to the Manchester Evening News, a new defensive lineup is expected, possibly dropping a key player.

Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, and Leny Yoro are likely to make up the starting back three. Patrick Dorgu has been solid on the left flank, while Diogo Dalot has made 28 appearances in the 29 league games this season. The only game he missed was due to suspension. Noussair Mazraoui was brought in as competition for Dalot, but both have shared the left-back role in 36 games, which may change as new tactical shifts are being considered.
