Seven players from Manchester City have been nominated for the 2024 Fifpro Men’s World XI, with only Real Madrid having more players on the list. This includes some of City’s biggest stars, such as goalkeeper Ederson, defenders Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker, midfielders Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Phil Foden, and forward Erling Haaland.
Notable Absences and Surprises
Among the nominees is Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, while England’s Cole Palmer earns his first nomination following his transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2023. Surprisingly, there is no spot for Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian winger from Liverpool, despite his stellar performances.
Messi, Ronaldo, and the Rest of the Nominations
Lionel Messi, now with Inter Miami, and Cristiano Ronaldo of Al Nassr are the only two players from outside of Europe to make the cut. Messi’s 18th nomination further cements his record for the most appearances on the Fifpro shortlist, with Ronaldo close behind on 16.
