Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy scored a remarkable hat-trick but it wasn’t enough to stop Barcelona from advancing to the Champions League semi-finals. Despite a 3-1 victory in the second leg, Dortmund lost the quarter-final 5-3 on aggregate.
Dortmund’s Early Push and Guirassy’s Penalty
Having been demolished 4-0 in the first leg, Dortmund came out firing in the second leg, with nothing to lose. Guirassy, who had missed chances previously, made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 11th minute after a collision between Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and Dortmund’s Pascal Gross.
Guirassy’s Header and Bensebaini’s Own Goal
In the second half, Guirassy’s header in the 49th minute gave Dortmund more hope, making the score 2-0. However, a disastrous own goal by Ramy Bensebaini made Dortmund’s task even harder, as Barcelona’s advantage grew.
A Stunning Hat-Trick, but Barcelona Hold On
Guirassy completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. The powerful close-range shot left Barcelona’s defense stunned. With 13 goals, Guirassy became the top scorer in the Champions League this season.
Barcelona’s Resilience and Progression
Despite Guirassy’s heroics, Barcelona held their nerve and secured progression to the semi-finals. The Catalan side will now face either Inter Milan or Bayern Munich in the next round, while Dortmund’s spirited comeback fell short.
