Fernandes believes more signings are needed

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged the club to sign additional players to improve their squad and boost their fortunes at Old Trafford. Fernandes, who rejected a massive offer to play in the Saudi Pro-League, is committed to helping United recover from the challenges they faced last season.

Recent signings but more required

Although Manchester United has already spent nearly £130m on forward players Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and brought in Paraguayan Under-20 international Diego Leon, Fernandes believes more signings are necessary. He stressed that increased competition for spots in the starting XI is crucial for team improvement.

Fernandes’ expectations for competition and quality

Fernandes told NBC that it was clear the club needed more competition and quality to push everyone to perform at a higher level. “That’s what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that,” he added.

United’s transfer plans

Manchester United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, mentioned the club is working tirelessly to explore every opportunity for improving the squad. United’s ongoing interest in RB Leipzig’s Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko is clear, and they are open to offers for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Midfield and other priorities for improvement

In addition to their forward signings, Fernandes believes central midfield is an area that needs more attention. Despite having strong midfielders, gaps were exposed during their match against Everton, with Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte at fault for the first goal.

Fernandes demands more from teammates

Fernandes also expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, specifically their play without the ball. He described the team’s defensive efforts as “lazy” and emphasized that, given the financial challenges the club is facing, including staff layoffs and increased ticket prices, the team’s performance must improve.

Looking ahead with determination

Fernandes and Manchester United’s leadership are pushing for stronger signings and a more competitive squad. The club is looking to make the necessary moves to secure a better future, both on and off the pitch.
