Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer is in advanced talks to join West Bromwich Albion on a season loan. The 21 year old had interest from several Championship sides and is now close to choosing the Baggies.
Loan terms and path to minutes
The proposed deal has no buy option, which signals United view Collyer as part of their longer term plans. West Brom have moved ahead of Hull City in the race. A temporary switch offers the midfielder regular starts rather than brief cameos for United, where competition in a two man midfield is intense with Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, and with Brighton talent Carlos Baleba also on the club’s radar.
Background and why West Brom fits
Collyer arrived from Brighton’s academy in March 2022 on a three and a half year contract. Last season he made six Premier League appearances, plus two in domestic cups and four in the Europa League under Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag. West Brom enter a fifth straight Championship campaign and aim for the play offs under head coach Ryan Mason, which could provide a strong platform for his development.
United’s immediate outlook
United start their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday, and Collyer is expected to be absent as his loan is finalised.
