Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso says Federico Chiesa has made himself unavailable for the national team’s last two World Cup qualifiers and that he will respect the forward’s decision. The 28-year-old last played for Italy at Euro 2024.
“I must respect what the player tells me”
Gattuso revealed he often speaks with Chiesa but declined to share details behind the choice. “We have to respect the decisions and problems that each of us has… I must respect what the player tells me. I can’t say anything else,” he said.
Key fixtures without Chiesa
Italy visit Moldova on Thursday before hosting group leaders Norway in Milan on Sunday. Chiesa’s absence comes despite limited but productive minutes at Liverpool this season, where he has 12 appearances, two goals and three assists under Arne Slot.
