Atlético Madrid has formally reported an issue to UEFA regarding the absence of hot water in the Emirates Stadium dressing rooms during their training session before their Champions League match against Arsenal, according to a statement provided to ESPN by the LaLiga club.
Training Session Disrupted by Facility Issue
On Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. local time, Atlético Madrid held a training session at the Emirates Stadium, following a press conference with coach Diego Simeone and player Julián Álvarez. The session was part of their preparations for the matchday three encounter with Arsenal, the current Premier League leaders. However, the team cut their training short and returned to the dressing room, only to find no hot water available. They decided to head back to their hotel to shower, with the issue being resolved approximately 40 minutes after it was reported.
UEFA Notified of the Complaint
A spokesperson for Atlético confirmed that the club raised the issue with UEFA officials present at the stadium. Arsenal, meanwhile, have been in strong form in the Champions League, securing victories in both of their matches so far—against Athletic Club away and Olympiacos at home. Atlético, on the other hand, suffered a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool but bounced back with a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Diego Simeone, who missed the touchline in a previous match due to a one-game suspension following an incident with fans at Anfield, will return to lead his team against Arsenal.
Simeone and Arteta’s Dynamic Ahead of the Clash
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta commended Simeone’s passion during a press conference but emphasized the importance of managers setting a positive example. In LaLiga, Atlético are currently fourth, with notable home performances, including a 5-2 victory over Real Madrid in the derby, though their away form has been less consistent. Last season, Atlético were knocked out in the Champions League round of 16 by Real Madrid in a penalty shootout, where Julián Álvarez’s penalty was disallowed. Arsenal, conversely, advanced to the semifinals.
