Liverpool FC has confirmed that Arne Slot will be their new head coach starting June 1, 2024, pending work permit approval. The 45-year-old Slot is set to leave Feyenoord to join Liverpool for the 2024-25 season. This move follows Jürgen Klopp’s decision to step down after the current season ends.
Dutch Coach’s Ascendancy to Liverpool FC
After three successful seasons with Feyenoord, culminating in a league title in 2023 and twice being named Eredivisie Manager of the Year, the Netherlands-born coach is set to take the helm at Liverpool FC. His tenure at Feyenoord also includes a recent KNVB Cup victory, where his team bested NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in April’s final. Before his achievements with Feyenoord, he served as the head coach of AZ Alkmaar, guiding them to a close second in the Eredivisie, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Ajax by goal difference during the abruptly halted 2019-20 season due to COVID-19. A former midfielder, he played for FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam, and PEC Zwolle, retiring in 2013. As he prepares for his first pre-season with Liverpool in July, he marks a significant milestone as the club’s first Dutch head coach.
