Andy Robertson: Liverpool Career Far From Over Despite Transfer Talk

Andy Robertson has firmly addressed speculation surrounding his future at Liverpool, emphasizing that his career at the club is far from finished. Despite being linked with numerous left-backs, Robertson remains confident in his ability and proud of his journey at Anfield.

A Season of Struggles and Criticism

This season, Robertson has faced challenges in regaining the top form he previously enjoyed under manager Jürgen Klopp. After suffering an ankle ligament injury that disrupted his preseason, the 31-year-old struggled to reach his usual high standards. This led to criticism, especially after a disappointing performance in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in October, where Robertson was at fault for Bukayo Saka’s opening goal.

Following this, Robertson was substituted during the match and later benched for Liverpool’s wins against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayer Leverkusen. However, since November, he has regained his place in the starting XI and remained a consistent figure in the team.

Confidence Despite External Pressure

Ahead of Scotland’s Nations League playoff against Greece, Robertson shared his thoughts on the constant transfer rumors surrounding him. “I think we’ve been linked with pretty much every left-back in the world,” he said, reflecting on his time at Liverpool.

He expressed pride in his eight years at the club and stated that although mistakes have been made, they’ve been blown out of proportion. Robertson emphasized his confidence in his abilities and his commitment to backing himself, regardless of outside opinions.

“The performance levels have been there for me,” he said. “I’ve had a relatively good season, and when you make a couple of mistakes, people talk. But I’m always confident in my ability.”

Reflecting on the Challenges at Liverpool

The international break came after a tough couple of weeks for Liverpool, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain and defeated by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final. Despite these setbacks, Robertson found solace in meeting up with the Scotland squad, which helped him move past the disappointing results.

“It’s part and parcel of football. It probably wasn’t one of our best weeks, but thankfully we’ve had plenty of good weeks this season,” Robertson said. He added that reconnecting with the national team has made it easier to get over Liverpool’s recent struggles and has provided a much-needed break from the intense pressure of club football.
