Man Utd goalkeeper Andre Onana agrees Trabzonspor loan move

From Inter Milan to Old Trafford

Andre Onana arrived at Manchester United in 2023 from Inter Milan for €51m (£43.8m), with an additional €4m (£3.4m) in potential add-ons. He was signed to be the long-term replacement between the sticks but pressure quickly mounted after costly errors.

Struggles in Manchester

Despite winning an FA Cup medal in his first season, Onana’s performances drew criticism. Under Ruben Amorim last term, mistakes continued, and a hamstring injury disrupted his pre-season this summer. His only 2025/26 appearance so far ended in embarrassment — a major error as United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby.

Loan deal to Trabzonspor

The PA news agency confirms Onana has agreed a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor. With the Turkish transfer window still open, the deal allows him to restart his career in the Süper Lig.

United’s goalkeeping situation

Former Fenerbahce keeper Altay Bayindir, who served as Onana’s deputy last season, has started all three Premier League matches this term. United also secured Antwerp’s Senne Lammens for €21m (£18.2m) on deadline day, ensuring competition remains strong.

What’s next

Onana will look to rediscover his form in Turkey, while Ruben Amorim’s United face Manchester City away after the international break. For now, Bayindir appears to be first choice at Old Trafford.
