Amorim right to change Man United’s ‘toxic’ culture – Shaw

Luke Shaw backs Ruben Amorim’s attempt to change Manchester United’s culture

CHICAGO — Luke Shaw has expressed support for Ruben Amorim’s efforts to transform the “toxic” culture at Manchester United and stated that the Portuguese coach is right to exile “stragglers” from the squad.

Shaw mentioned that Amorim is determined to raise standards at Old Trafford after United’s worst season in over 50 years. According to Shaw, Amorim has been clear that any player who does not meet his expectations will be left out.

“The mentality is a big thing on his lips,” Shaw said. “I think he talks a lot about it. Ruben demands 100% and that’s it and he doesn’t want anything less. If someone’s doing 85 or 90%, it’s not enough for him. I think, especially this year, if you’re not doing the right things, I feel like you won’t play.”

Shaw reflected on United’s recent struggles, saying that the environment has been negative and “toxic,” and emphasized the need for a more positive and healthy atmosphere. “We need an environment that’s healthy, that’s positive, that’s got good energy and happiness.”

Shaw praises Amorim’s tough demands and his impact on the squad

Amorim, who took charge in November, has already made significant changes to the squad. Marcus Rashford has been loaned to Barcelona, while several players, including Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, were left out of the preseason tour to America.

Shaw confirmed that Amorim has made it clear there will be no room for players who do not meet his standards. “There are no stragglers in this group anymore,” Shaw said. “I think you’ve seen what he’s done in the past eight months with different players and things like that, he doesn’t care who the player is.”

Amorim’s emphasis on team-first mentality and his tough approach to standards has earned Shaw’s full support. “His mentality, his demands, he’s extremely tough on the group. Everyone has to put the team first. He’s made that very clear. As players we’re fully behind him and fully behind his ideas and what he wants to implement in the team.”

Shaw’s commitment to raising standards under Amorim

Amorim’s arrival follows United’s disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League and their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The tour of the U.S. is intended to reset the squad ahead of the new campaign, and Shaw, the club’s longest-serving player, has committed to helping raise standards.

“As players, especially the more experienced ones, we need to be demanding more on a day-in, day-out basis,” Shaw said. “The levels in training, keeping the times of when we’re doing this and doing that, making sure no one’s coming late or anything. Whatever the manager wants, us as players we have to be delivering that. We’re fully behind that.”
