Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury, which he sustained during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace. The 32-year-old Brazilian went down in the second half, immediately signaling discomfort and throwing his gloves in frustration. After undergoing scans, it was confirmed that he would be unavailable until after the next international break in mid-November.
This injury is a significant blow to Liverpool, as they face a challenging run of fixtures, including games against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. Alisson, who already missed one match earlier this season due to hamstring pain, has had a history of injury and illness issues over the past few seasons.
Liverpool’s Backup Plan
In Alisson’s absence, Liverpool will rely on their No. 2 goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irishman, who has been a solid backup for the Reds, was the subject of transfer interest this summer, but Liverpool retained him. Kelleher is expected to step up during this critical period, which includes games against strong opposition like Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool also have Czech goalkeeper Viteszlaw Jaros and recently signed Georgia’s No. 1, Giorgi Mamardashvili, from Valencia, though the latter won’t join the squad until the end of the season.
Upcoming Fixtures
During Alisson’s absence, Liverpool face seven challenging matches, starting with Chelsea at home, followed by trips to Arsenal and RB Leipzig. They’ll also play Brighton, Aston Villa, and Bayer Leverkusen before the goalkeeper’s potential return, which could be as soon as their match against Southampton on November 24.
