Western Australia’s Historic Collapse Against Tasmania

In a shocking turn of events during Australia’s domestic One-Day Cup, defending champions Western Australia suffered a dramatic collapse against Tasmania, losing eight wickets for a mere one run. Batting in Perth on a green, bouncy pitch, Western Australia had initially reached 52-2. However, the team was bowled out for just 53 runs after their middle and lower order fell apart, with batters five through ten scoring no runs and contributing only a single extra from a wide.

Key Bowling Performances

Tasmania’s seamer Beau Webster dominated with figures of 6-17, while fast bowler Billy Stanlake took 3-12, wrapping up the collapse swiftly. Tasmania easily chased down the modest target, reaching 55-3 in just 8.3 overs, securing a seven-wicket victory.

A Historic Collapse

This batting performance marked the second-lowest score in Australia’s domestic 50-over tournament history, with only South Australia’s 51 against Tasmania in 2003 ranking lower. Additionally, Western Australia’s collapse of eight wickets for one run set a new record for the worst eight-wicket collapse in the competition, surpassing Victoria’s previous record of 8-24 set in the 2002-03 season.
