In a recent interview with Boxing King Media, Egis Klimas, the manager of Oleksandr Usyk, revealed that the Ukrainian heavyweight champion may already be eyeing his next opponent after his anticipated rematch with Tyson Fury in December. Despite holding the heavyweight title and claiming victories over some of the division’s best, Usyk is determined to continue asserting his dominance in the ring.
Usyk’s Focus on Fury and Beyond
The 37-year-old Usyk, who has already beaten Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, and Tyson Fury, will face the British fighter Fury again on December 21 in Riyadh. Usyk is aiming to repeat his earlier split-decision victory over the towering 6-foot-9 Brit, but his manager insists that a potential fight with another heavyweight contender is already on the horizon, regardless of the outcome.
A Rematch with Daniel Dubois?
Klimas hinted that if Usyk is successful against Fury, he will likely set up a rematch with Daniel Dubois, the IBF champion. The first encounter between Usyk and Dubois was controversial, with many questioning the legality of a punch that Usyk received to the beltline, which the referee ruled a low blow. Klimas emphasized that their team believes a second fight is crucial to settle any remaining doubts.
Klimas stated, “Would we set up a fight with Dubois if Usyk beats Fury? Absolutely. I don’t think anyone else is left in the heavyweight division.”
Dubois’ Resurgence and Usyk’s Future
Daniel Dubois has bounced back impressively from his loss to Usyk in 2023, claiming victories over fighters like Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, and has consolidated his position in the heavyweight ranks. Now, after a historic win over Anthony Joshua in August, Dubois enters 2025 with confidence, while Usyk nears his 40th birthday. With the Ukrainian champion’s career winding down, many believe Dubois might pose a real threat in a future rematch.
Although Usyk’s primary focus is his rematch with Fury, Klimas confirmed that a showdown with Dubois is next on the agenda if Usyk comes out victorious in December.
