Knicks Survive Trae Young’s Heroics in Thrilling Overtime Victory

It looked like the Knicks were finally in control, but they should have known better. When Trae Young is on the other side, there’s no such thing as being “in the clear.”

In another dramatic encounter with their longtime rival, Young nearly handed the Knicks another crushing defeat. With just 18 seconds remaining in regulation, New York held a six-point lead, but the Hawks quickly made a comeback. Young nailed two free throws with 2.2 seconds left to tie the game, marking the first time the Knicks weren’t ahead since the opening quarter.

A Last-Second Miss and Overtime Drama

Jalen Brunson’s buzzer-beater attempt at the end of regulation missed, sending the game into overtime. Despite Trae Young scoring six more points in overtime, bringing his total to 38 points along with 19 assists, the Knicks managed to hold on for a 149-148 win at Madison Square Garden.

Brunson’s clutch jumper with 11.1 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Knicks a one-point lead, which proved to be just enough to secure the victory.

“It’s great to go into the break with a win no matter how we got it or what happened,” Brunson said. “I’m just happy we fought through, regardless of what we did positive or negative.”

Late-Game Collapse, But Knicks Hang On

The Knicks almost handed the game right back to the Hawks after Josh Hart’s two free throws gave them a six-point lead with 18 seconds left. However, New York allowed a quick three-pointer from Georges Niang and then turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, putting the game on the edge. Fortunately, they managed to survive the final moments, just barely hanging on for the win.
