The Daily Hoosier had the opportunity to catch up with Boateng, who hails from Little Rock, Arkansas, during the Adidas 3SSB Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The aim was to discuss his recruitment process and gain insights into his thoughts on Indiana University. Boateng is one of the lesser-covered prospects among those offered by Indiana, receiving the offer relatively late. To shed light on his college decision process, the following Q&A took place:
TDH: Considering your demanding schedule, how much attention have you given to the recruiting process thus far?
Boateng: Yeah, I’ve been focused on it, and I’ve been trying to narrow down the schools recently because it’s getting close to decision time. I’ve been thinking about it, and even before coming here, my parents and I discussed it. I’ll probably release a list cut soon.
TDH: How many schools are you planning to narrow down to? What’s the next step after that?
Boateng: Probably eight or nine schools, and those will be the main ones I’ll focus on. We’ve talked about potential official visits to multiple schools such as Stanford, Missouri, Arkansas, and Virginia Tech. Official visits are definitely on the horizon.
TDH: Is Indiana University one of the schools you’re considering for a visit?
Boateng: Yes, sir. I am considering visiting Indiana. I actually spoke to Coach Brian Walsh before coming here. So, yeah, Indiana is definitely a school I’m considering for a visit.
TDH: What do you know about the Indiana basketball program?
Boateng: I’m still learning about them. I know they recently had a draft pick, Jalen Hood-Schifino. I’ve seen him play a couple of times. Also, one of my friends, Kel’el Ware, who is an Indiana center, is from my hometown. He’s having a good time there, and I believe I would enjoy it too.
TDH: Who else from Indiana University have you been in contact with?
Boateng: I’ve talked to Coach Woodson. We have been in recent contact.
TDH: How are the conversations going with Indiana? Do you resonate with their message?
Boateng: Indiana is definitely a school I’m considering. They have also spoken with my parents. When you’re speaking directly with the head coach, it shows that they are genuinely interested in recruiting you. In terms of my recruitment, I am definitely considering Indiana.
TDH: Do you see yourself as a primary ball handler or more of a wing player at the next level?
Boateng: I consider myself more of a wing because that’s where I am most effective. While I can bring the ball up in certain situations, I thrive primarily as a wing player.
